Dip in number of Covid-19 cases in ICU; 2 new clusters identified
In its nightly update on the coronavirus situation in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that there are four patients who are in critical condition under intensive care, down from seven a day ago.
SINGAPORE — The number of Covid-19 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs) fell on Saturday (Aug 7), while two new clusters were detected by the authorities.
In its nightly update on the coronavirus situation in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that there are four patients who are in critical condition under intensive care, down from seven a day ago.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen support held steady at 38.
Of the 42 cases in serious or critical condition, five are fully vaccinated, MOH said.
And of the five, four require oxygen supplementation while the remaining case is in intensive care as they have underlying medical conditions.
Meanwhile, 33 seniors above 60 years, of whom 29 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, have fallen very ill.
Over the last 28 days, 89 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to ICU or passed away.
Among these, 55 are unvaccinated, 26 are partially vaccinated and eight are fully vaccinated.
On Saturday, MOH said an 80-year-old Singaporean woman died from complications due to Covid-19. She was the fifth such death this week.
There are 529 Covid-19 patients who are in hospital.
2 NEW CLUSTERS
One of the new clusters is linked to Sin Ming 23 Coffee Shop, with five cases in total.
The other cluster is identified only by a case number and has three cases in total.
Altogether, there are currently 128 active clusters, ranging between three and 1,143 infections.
Earlier, MOH said Singapore had recorded 75 cases of locally transmitted Covid-19 infection as of noon on Saturday, of whom 50 are linked to previous cases, and have already been placed on quarantine.
Another nine are linked to previous cases and were detected through surveillance, while 16 are currently unlinked.
Amongst the cases are three seniors above 70 years who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and are at risk of serious illness.
There are also six new imported cases, who have already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.
Two were detected upon arrival in Singapore, while four developed the illness during SHN or isolation.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 868 cases in the week before to 611 cases in the past week, MOH said.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased from 256 cases in the week before to 170 cases in the past week.
VACCINATIONS
As of Friday, 68 per cent of the population had completed their full regimen or received two doses of Covid-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme, while 79 per cent had received at least one dose.
In addition, 129,787 doses of Sinovac vaccines had been administered as of Friday, covering 81,555 people.
