Dissolution of Moulmein-Kallang GRC not disruptive: Lui Tuck Yew

SINGAPORE — The People's Action Party's activists at Moulmein say the recommendation to dissolve the Moulmein-Kallang Group Representation Constituency (GRC) is not disruptive as they had worked with the Tanjong Pagar team previously, said Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew today evening (July 27).
"They are part of Moulmein branch. We were working with the Tanjong Pagar team from 2006 to 2011," said Mr Lui at a Meet-the-People session at the Moulmein branch.
"In fact, we have been work working with them far longer than we have with the Moulmein-Kallang team, which we have worked well with for the last four years. So, I don't think it will be so huge of a dislocation for the activists."
The Minister anchors the Moulmein-Kallang GRC, which will be absorbed into neighbouring constituencies Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, Tanjong Pagar GRC and the revived Jalan Besar GRC, according to the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC) report released last Friday. Mr Lui's ward will join Tanjong Pagar GRC, where he represented in 2006.
Asked about the possibility of revealing a new candidate understudying him, Mr Lui said: "All things will be clearer with time."
Mr Lui also revealed he will be addressing the transport woes that have made headlines in recent weeks. A 3.5-hour train service disruption crippled the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL) during the evening peak period on Jul 7, affecting about 250,000 commuters.
"We have a series of visits next week, such as visiting the Circle Line and Gali Batu Depot, just to see how things are because we want to get the Downtown Line to run before the end of the year," he said. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
