Drones, bad weather cause more flight delays at Changi Airport
About 15 departures and 3 arrivals were delayed at Changi Airport, while seven flights were diverted.
SINGAPORE — Flights were delayed or diverted at Changi Airport on Monday (June 24) night due to unauthorised drone activities and bad weather, said the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) in response to media queries.
About 15 departures and three arrivals were delayed, while seven other flights were diverted.
Arrival and departure flights were "carefully regulated" from around 8pm to 9pm on Monday as a precautionary measure, CAAS said.
Investigations are ongoing, added CAAS.
This is the second incident of flights being disrupted by unauthorised drones at Changi Airport in less than a week.
A total of 37 scheduled departure and arrival flights at Changi Airport were delayed between 11pm on June 18 and 9am on June 19.
In its statement, CAAS reminded the public that the authorities take a "serious view of errant operations of unmanned aircraft which may pose threats to aviation or endanger the personal safety of others, and will not hesitate to take enforcement action against those who contravene regulations".
Offenders could face a fine not exceeding $20,000 or imprisonment for a term of up to 12 months, or both.
