e2i partners industry body to spur adoption of new technologies

SINGAPORE — To prepare the service industry for the next wave of technology advancement, the Devan Nair Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) today (April 6) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Singapore Industrial Automation Association (SIAA) to spur the adoption of new technologies among businesses here. The signing ceremony was observed by National Trades Union Congress Deputy Secretary-General Chan Chun Sing.

The e2i and SIAA aim to enhance industry productivity and deepen technology competency through events, company visits, consultations and training for new technologies.

The inaugural Robotics and Automation Awareness Seminar held today involved speakers from research institutes based in Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan. About 200 employers from service-related sectors attended the one-day event.

Technology booths offering solutions for packaging, warehousing and healthcare were also on display. The Institute of Infocomm Research and Singapore University of Technology and Design were also on site to advise employers on strategies to optimise manpower and operations.

Under e2i’s Inclusive Growth Programme, employers can also receive up to 50 per cent equipment funding and 90 per cent training support for robotics and automation. Each company can receive up to S$500,000 in equipment funds every year.

e2i is also working with industry partners such as the Nanyang Technological University and KUKA to develop broad-based diploma courses, customised workshops and training for in-house applications.
