SINGAPORE — Fibre broadband services for some 1,000 users living around Ang Mo Kio and Bishan were disrupted on Friday (Feb 28) due to cables that were damaged by an errant contractor.

In a statement on Friday evening, Fibre network operator NetLink Trust said that it received reports of a fibre service disruption at around 5.30pm.

“We discovered that our fibre cables along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 were damaged by a third-party contractor. This errant third-party contractor was not engaged by NetLink Trust or its vendors,” said the operator.

Telcos Singtel, M1 and StarHub all posted updates on Facebook alerting customers of the disruption.

NetLink Trust said that it has since deployed its recovery team onsite to restore the fibre service, and expects services to be progressively restored by Saturday morning.

“We are working with all relevant parties including the Internet Service Providers to ensure that the service to the affected areas will be restored as soon as possible,” it said.

Affected individuals can monitor the network operator’s website where updates will be posted as soon as information becomes available.

The last reported fibre broadband service disruption involving NetLink Trust happened in June last year, affecting about 600 users in Yishun. This was due to a cut cable.

The network was restored about six hours later.
