Former actor charged with attacking man with metal scraper, fighting with another in Little India
Former Mediacorp actor Ng Aik Leong is out on bail on S$15,000 and will return to court on Dec 12.
SINGAPORE — Former television actor Ng Aik Leong, better known as Huang Yiliang, was charged in court on Friday (Nov 29) with assaulting a man last year with a metal scraper and fighting with another man in public earlier this year.
This is not 58-year-old Ng’s first brush with the law. In 2012, he was fined S$3,000 for assaulting a woman who failed to clean up after her dog in Toa Payoh.
Ng left Mediacorp about a decade ago after 20 years there, during which time he won Best Supporting Actor at the Star Awards three times, including for his role as Tian Dahua in the popular drama series Holland V. He then started his own production company.
On Friday, he was accused of:
Causing hurt to a man named Jahidul by hitting him twice in his abdomen and once on his head with a metal scraper, at the canteen of the Singapore Islamic Hub in Braddell on Dec 11 last year. Court documents did not state who Jahidul is.
Fighting with one Mogana Raj Saravanan on June 9 around Tekka Market in Little India, by hitting him on the back of his head with his own mobile phone.
Ng is out on bail of S$15,000 and will return to court on Dec 20. He was unrepresented by a lawyer.
If convicted of causing hurt with a weapon, he could be jailed for up to seven years, fined or both. The offence carries the possibility of caning but offenders above 50 years old cannot be caned by law.
If convicted of affray, he could be jailed for up to a year, fined up to S$5,000 or both.
