Former associate director of Changi Airports International charged with receiving more than S$200,000 in bribes
James Lim Liong Ghee, a 45-year-old former associate director of Changi Airports International (CAI), allegedly received bribes totaling S$215, 237 on 98 occasions.
SINGAPORE – A former employee of Changi Airport’s investment and consultancy arm was charged on Monday (Dec 23) with allegedly receiving more than S$200,000 in bribes from the director of a computer services company.
James Lim Liong Ghee, a 45-year-old former associate director of Changi Airports International (CAI), allegedly received a total of S$215,237 on 98 occasions between 2015 and 2017 from Ng Soon Weng, the director of First Tel Tech.
Lim, was also charged with conspiring with Ng and another individual to forge five quotations.
While the identity of the third individual was not revealed, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) said that trio had committed the act with the intention of cheating CAI into awarding contracts to Ng’s company.
Lim was also charged for forging 11 quotations on a separate occasion for similar reasons.
Ng was similarly charged on Monday for bribing Lim and for being involved in the forgery attempts.
Both Lim and Ng were offered bail of S$50,000 each and are scheduled to appear in court again on Jan 20.
If found guilty of corruption, they can each be fined up to S$100,000, jailed up to five years, or both. As for forgery for the purpose of cheating, they could each be fined and jailed up to 10 years if found guilty.
The CPIB said in its statement that companies are “strongly advised” to put in place robust procedures in areas such as procurement and internal audit to prevent dishonest acts by rogue employees.
It added that it looks into all corruption complaints and reports, including anonymous ones.
