SINGAPORE — Business leader Freddy Soon has died at the age of 73.

His daughter, Ms Debra Soon, Head, Family Segment (English) and Premier Segment at MediaCorp, confirmed that he died yesterday morning (Nov 19).

Mr Soon was the advisor to the group chief executive officer and managing director at water management giant Hyflux. He joined Hyflux in 2003 as the senior vice president for Group Communications and Relations where he managed the company’s branding and positioning.

Before joining Hyflux, Mr Soon was the deputy chief executive at SPRING Singapore where he served for 21 years. Mr Soon had over three decades of experience in productivity and competitiveness policy and strategy formulation, industrial design, quality assurance and standardisation, business excellence management as well as international relations.

In 2011, he was awarded the Public Service Star in the National Day Honours List in recognition for his volunteer work and contributions to the national health programme and specifically for his work in Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he served as chairman of the Medifund Committee from 1993.

In 1995, Mr Soon had received the Public Administration Medal (Silver) for his work in promoting the productivity movement nationwide.

Mr Soon’s family is directing donations to TTSH Community Fund in place of wreaths. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
