SINGAPORE — Commuters can continue to enjoy free pre-peak travel and discounts on off-peak travel till end of the year, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) announced on Friday (June 23).

The two trials to incentivise off-peak travel on public transport are extended while a review of the scheme is being carried out.

The Free Pre-Peak Travel and Off-Peak Pass trials on public transport, first introduced in 2013 and 2015 respectively, were slated to expire on June 30 and July 4 respectively.

The ministry said it has asked the Public Transport Council (PTC) to conduct a review of the two trials, in light of recent measures to enhance public transport capacity, such as the addition of new MRT lines, trains and buses.

They include the full opening of the Downtown Line by end of the year, addition of more than 100 trains to the MRT and LRT network since 2011, and 950 more buses put onto the roads since 2012.

The PTC will be conducting the review alongside the Fare Review Exercise, and findings will be released by the end of the year.
