GE2020: PM Lee to speak at lunchtime online rally on July 6

SINGAPORE — People’s Action Party (PAP) secretary-general Lee Hsien Loong will speak at an online rally at noon on Monday (July 6), continuing the party’s long-running tradition of holding a lunchtime rally during every General Election.
“Every election, rain or shine, the PAP holds a lunchtime rally at Fullerton (Square). It is the highlight of the campaign,” he wrote on Facebook on Sunday evening. “Pandemic or no, we will again hold a Fullerton rally this time, but it will be online.”
Mr Lee, who is also the prime minister, will be speaking from the PAP headquarters on New Upper Changi Road. He said he will speak about the “stakes in this election” and how PAP can meet the challenges ahead.
He noted that GE2020 is “arguably our most critical one since independence”.
“The next government needs the people’s strong support, to make difficult decisions, to lead Singapore safely through this crisis and beyond,” he said.
Sharing a picture of himself at the 1984 Fullerton lunchtime rally, PM Lee noted that it was his first election then. “Thirty-six years later, Singapore faces a new, entirely different set of challenges. The Covid-19 pandemic has excaberbated this. Its fallout will leave a lasting impact on Singapore and the world,” he added.
