Government donates S$1 million to Singapore Red Cross to aid communities in China stricken by coronavirus
Aside from the S$1 million in seed funding, the Singapore Government will also provide medicine, medical supplies and diagnostic test kits for the coronavirus for use in laboratories.
SINGAPORE — The Government will be making a S$1 million donation to the Singapore Red Cross, which on Tuesday (Feb 4) launched a public appeal for funds to help the communities in China who have been severely hit by the novel coronavirus epidemic.
In a media statement late on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that aside from the S$1 million in seed funding, the Government will also provide medicine, medical supplies and diagnostic test kits for the coronavirus for use in laboratories.
It will be supporting efforts by the Singapore Red Cross, the Singapore Trade Associations and Chambers as well as companies and community organisations here.
Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said earlier on Monday that Singapore will be providing an assistance package to help the affected communities in China.
Speaking in Parliament, he said that the coronavirus is “not a problem for China but for the world”.
MFA said Singapore is confident that through close cooperation, China, Singapore and the rest of the international community will overcome this challenge.
