ICA files police report over another fake website

SINGAPORE — The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has warned the public of a new fake website that is phishing for visitors’ visa application numbers and passport number.
In a statement on Tuesday (Jan 31), the ICA identified the site as www.ica.sgov.asia.
The official ICA website is www.ica.gov.sg.
The latest fake ICA webpage looks very similar to the official ICA page, however, there are slight differences.
For example, when accessing the Submission of Application for Visa Electronically (SAVE) page, the real ICA website redirects visitors to a page listing the types of visa applications online — either through the authorised visa agents of the overseas missions, strategic partners in Singapore or your local contact.
However, the fake ICA website (www.ica.sgov.asia) redirects visitors to a page asking for one’s Visa reference number and travel document number.
ICA said that a police report had been made “and we would like to assure everyone that access to the official ICA website remains unaffected and no data has been compromised”.
This is the latest fake ICA website to have surfaced. Last year, for example, the authorities warned about three fake websites — www.immisg-mom.in, www.ica-spg.org and http://ica-sg.com — phishing for personally identifiable information.
The ICA advised members of the public to exercise caution and to use only the official ICA website for all informational and transactional needs concerning ICA matters.
The ICA said: “ICA takes a serious view of such fake websites as they undermine public trust in our system and processes. We will work to bring down the website and will continue to monitor them.”
