Ikea recalls children’s bib over choking hazard
Customers do not need to produce a receipt and will receive a full refund or a similar product in exchange for the recalled bibs at any Ikea store in Singapore.
SINGAPORE — Swedish furniture company Ikea recalled its MATVRA Blue/ Red two-pack children’s bib on Monday (Sept 30) over a choking hazard.
In a press release, Ikea said it was brought to their attention that the button on the bib could come off if a child were to pull at it.
Replying to queries from TODAY, the company said it received two incident reports from Norway and the United Kingdom where the button on the bib came loose upon usage.
The company added that it was recalling the bibs as a “precautionary measure” and that no known incidents have been reported in Singapore where over 600 pieces have been sold so far.
It urged its customers who had bought the bib to stop using it.

Ikea added that MATVRA bibs that come in green and yellow, and with fruit/ vegetables patterns are safe to use due to “different material and design”.
Unlike the Blue/Red two-pack children’s bib which is made of polyethylene and ethylene vinyl acetate, the bib with the fruit/vegetables patterns is made of 100 per cent cotton and has a pocket in front.
According to the Ikea spokesperson, the recalled bibs had retailed for S$3.90.
