Jurong Country Club representatives meet authorities over high speed rail plans

SINGAPORE — Representatives of the Jurong Country Club (JCC) held their first meeting this evening (May 15) with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the Land Transport Authority and JTC Corporation to discuss plans for the impending acquisition of the 67-hectare land that the club and its golf course is sitting on.

Six members from the club’s newly-formed task force, including its general manager Farrock Ebrahim, president Bobby Wee, captain Ross Tan and marketing communications manager Christina Ling, attended the meeting held at Revenue House.

Representatives from JCC and the Government agencies were tight-lipped about the details of the discussion, which lasted about 1.5 hours. Speaking to TODAY, Ms Ling would only say that the club would issue an internal memo to members tomorrow (May 16).

On the meeting, an SLA spokesperson said: “SLA met up with the General Committee of JCC on Friday evening to facilitate the transition and mitigate the difficulties arising from the compulsory acquisition of the club."

"We will continue to work closely with the management of JCC to assist the club throughout the acquisition process. JCC members can liaise with the club’s management for queries pertaining to the acquisition," she added.

On Monday (May 11), the Government announced that the site occupied by JCC would be acquired for the construction of the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail terminus. Club members have expressed unhappiness at the sudden notice and the 18-month deadline given to vacate the premises, as the original lease for the club was till 2035.
