SINGAPORE: Laos Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone will make his first official visit to Singapore on Tuesday (Jul 9).
Mr Siphandone was appointed prime minister in December 2023, after the country's former leader Phankham Viphavanh resigned citing health reasons.
His visit to Singapore commemorates the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a statement on Monday.
Mr Siphandone will receive a ceremonial welcome at Parliament House and will call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. He will also meet Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, who will host an official lunch in his honour, as well as Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
At the official lunch, both prime ministers will launch the logo commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Singapore–Laos diplomatic relations.
Mr Wong and Mr Siphandone will also witness the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) between Singapore and Laos in the areas of carbon credits and education cooperation, said MFA.
Mr Siphandone will be accompanied by ministers and senior officials from Laos.
