SINGAPORE — After befriending a group of boys outside a convenience store, Husain Ibrahim, 54, spent time with them regularly, buying them food, drinks and cigarettes over the course of more than two months, and invited some of them to his home.
When he was asked for a S$50 loan by one of the boys, Husain preyed on the minor, counter-proposing that it was a deal if he could perform sexual acts on the teenager.
On Wednesday (April 19), he pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual penetration of minors under the age of 14, an offence that could carry a jail term which may extend to 20 years, as well as a fine or caning.
The court heard that Husain had first befriended two of his victims — boys aged 10 and 14 years old — all of whom cannot be named because of a court order — at a 7-Eleven store at Commonwealth MRT Station sometime in June 2015, where they had gone to buy some sweets.
He would later introduce himself to the boys as Abang (Brother) Choh, and gave them his mobile number.
A day after their first meeting, the two boys, along with three friends, including a 13-year-old, met Husain at The Star Vista.
At the mall, the 13-year-old victim asked Husain for a S$50-loan as he wanted to go on a date with his girlfriend.
Husain later invited the five boys to his flat in Commonwealth Crescent, where he lives with his brother. That night, his brother was not in.
The 13-year-old boy again asked Husain to lend him S$50, and he asked the teenager to follow him to the bedroom. Feeling somewhat wary, the boy asked his 14-year-old friend to accompany him.
In the bedroom, Husain confessed to the duo that he was gay, and that he would give them money if they were willing to allow him to perform a sexual act. The two teens agreed to his proposal.
A month later, in July, the 14-year-old victim and his 10-year-old friend were hanging out together, when they decided to ask Husain for money, and made their way to the accused’s house.
At his flat, Husain again performed sexual acts on the 14-year-old, who suggested that the man do the same thing to his younger friend.
Husain then approached the 10-year-old, who was in the living room, to perform the sexual acts.
He gave S$20 to the elder boy, and S$5 to the younger victim.
These two boys met Husain again on July 25, where he also performed sexual acts, and touched them inappropriately, in exchange for some money.
The next day, the boys spent the night at Husain’s house, and after leaving his flat the next morning, they made their way to a mosque in Queenstown, where they were spotted by the 10-year-old’s mother.
The woman, who had earlier made a missing person’s report about the boy, informed the police that she had found her son.
The boys later told the police that Husain had performed sexual acts on them, and he was arrested on July 28, 2015.
Husain, who has had previous convictions, including drug-related offences, will appear in court again for his sentencing at a later date.
