SINGAPORE: A 30-year-old man was arrested in Bedok on Wednesday (Jul 13) for suspected drug trafficking offences after attacking officers with pepper spray, said the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB).

The agency added that weapons were seized, along with drugs with an estimated street value of S$47,000. These comprised about 141g of heroin, 181g of Ice, 11 ecstasy tablets and 21 Erimin-5 tablets.

The amount of heroin and Ice seized can feed the addiction of about 170 abusers for a week, said CNB.

The Singaporean man was arrested on Wednesday evening at Bedok North Avenue 3.

“The man had put up a violent struggle to resist arrest and attacked the officers with a pepper spray. Officers responded with necessary force to subdue the man," said CNB in a media release on Thursday.

Drugs and various drug paraphernalia were recovered from the man, said CNB.

"Weapons including a knuckle duster, a karambit knife and a pepper spray were also seized," it added.

The man was later taken to his hideout in a private residential area near Siglap Road, where officers recovered more drugs and another karambit knife.

Drugs were also seized at another hideout at Yishun Avenue 11, said CNB.

Investigations into the suspect's drug activities are ongoing.

Anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin (diamorphine) may face the mandatory death penalty.

The man has also been referred to the police for investigations into the possession of scheduled weapons and using criminal force against a public servant, said CNB.
