Man charged with slashing clerk’s face at Tanjong Pagar moneylender

SINGAPORE — A 21-year-old man was charged in court on Wednesday (Oct 9) with slashing a clerk’s face at a moneylender in Tanjong Pagar about a week ago.
According to court documents, Wong Kian Hong allegedly attacked Mr Poh Say Hong, 31, with a knife in broad daylight on Oct 3.
Mr Poh had rejected Wong’s request for a loan, Chinese media reported.
Wong fled the scene at the Orchid Hotel, located at 1 Tras Link, at about 4.10pm, the police said on Tuesday.
Mr Poh was taken conscious to the Singapore General Hospital.
Wong is accused of leaving a 5cm-long “permanent facial disfiguration” on the victim’s face.
Police officers identified Wong with the help of closed-circuit television footage and arrested him along Orchard Road on Tuesday.
District Judge Ong Luan Tze ordered him to be remanded at the Central Police Division for a week. He will return to court on Oct 16.
If convicted of causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon, he could be jailed for up to 15 years, fined or caned.
