Man who flew drone near Padang during NDP 2019 to be charged: Police
It was an offence to fly UAVs in the area around the Padang from 12am until 11.59pm on Aug 9.
SINGAPORE — A 21-year-old man will be charged in court on Wednesday (Oct 2) with flying an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) near the Padang during the National Day Parade (NDP) on Aug 9, said the Singapore Police Force in a statement.
The statement issued on Tuesday said that the police spotted a UAV flying along Raffles Avenue at about 7.55pm on Aug 9. UAVs are also known as drones.
The police managed to locate the man operating the UAV “through ground inquiries” and eventually detained him.
The UAV was seized as a case exhibit, the police added.
NDP 2019 had been declared an "Enhanced Security Special Event" under the Public Order Act on Aug 9 from 12am until 11.59pm.
The police had imposed security restrictions on the area around the Padang — which includes Raffles Avenue — during that period.
In particular, it was an offence to fly UAVs in the area without a valid permit under Section 26 of the Public Order Act, the statement said.
The offence carries a jail term of up to 12 months or a fine of up to S$20,000, or both, it added.
