Manager who works at 2 restaurants a Covid-19 community case
SINGAPORE — The sole Covid-19 community case in Singapore reported on Monday (April 19) is a 44-year-old man who works as a manager at two restaurants: The Spice Grill Restaurant in Tanjong Pagar and the Rangoon Bar & Bistro near Little India.
He last went to work on April 15.
In its update on the coronavirus situation here, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that the permanent resident is the husband of an accountant who tested positive for the coronavirus last Friday.
The man, who had been on home quarantine since April 16, was tested for the virus the next day.
His test result came back positive on April 18 and he was then taken to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.
“His serology test result (for past infection) has come back negative, indicating that this is likely a current infection,” MOH said.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has jumped from two in the week before to nine in the past week.
The number of cases with no known links to confirmed cases in the community has also spiked from two in the week before to five in the past week.
IMPORTED CASES
Apart from the 44-year-old man, there were 19 imported cases of Covid-19 registered on Monday and all had been placed on stay-home notices or isolated upon their arrival here.
They were:
Two Singaporeans and six permanent residents who returned from India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Nepal
Three dependant’s pass holders who arrived from the Maldives and Philippines
One long-term visit pass holder, two student's pass holders, three work pass holders and a work permit holder who all came from India
One short-term visit pass holder who arrived from India to visit her family member here
UPDATE ON REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore is now 60,851.
Of these, 60,503 people have fully recovered and been discharged, including 18 on Monday.
There are still 79 patients in hospitals. Of these, most are stable or improving, and one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit, MOH said.
Another 239 patients are isolated at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Thirty people have died from complications due to the disease.
