Mercedes driver arrested for alleged drink driving following death of cyclist in Adam Road accident
SINGAPORE — A 38-year-old male car driver was arrested for alleged drink driving and dangerous driving causing death, after an accident along Adam Road resulted in the death of a cyclist, the police said on Thursday (Dec 1) afternoon.
The police were alerted to the alleged hit-and-run accident involving a white Mercedes car and a bicycle along Adam Road towards the Lornie Road exit into Pan Island Expressway at around 6.30am on Wednesday.
The 43-year-old male cyclist was unconscious when he was taken to the hospital where he later died, the police said.
The police initially mentioned that there were two men, aged 38 and 40, assisting investigations, later confirming that one of them is the driver who has been arrested.
They added that investigations are still ongoing.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said on Wednesday in response to TODAY's queries that the cyclist had been taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he died.
A photo showing a damaged blue Canyon bicycle lying on a road kerb next to a grass patch is circulating on social media, with appeals for witnesses to the incident.
The Australian and New Zealand Association cycling club, of which the man was believed to be a member, said in an Instagram Story post on Wednesday that it was aware of the incident.
The club said that it was working to find out "more information" about the accident, additionally urging viewers not to share photos or conjecture about the incident.
