SINGAPORE: A search is underway for a missing crew member after a tugboat sank in Singapore waters, said the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Wednesday (Sep 4).

The authority said the tugboat, OSHIO, sank in the Eastern Anchorage at about 2.15pm. Two crew members were reported to be onboard the tugboat at the time of the incident, which occured within Singapore's port limits.

The Police Coast Guard (PCG) rescued a 39-year-old crew member, and he was taken to the hospital where he later died.

MPA said it is coordinating a search and rescue operation with PCG and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for the other crew member.

"MPA has activated salvage divers to confirm the location of the sunken tug for salvage operations and is issuing navigational broadcasts for vessels to keep clear of the area," said the authority.

No oil pollution has been reported, it added.
