SINGAPORE: There were thrills aplenty at Singapore's National Day Parade to mark its 58th year of independence. Crowds were entertained by the Republic of Singapore Air Force fighter jets pulling off awe-inducing manoeuvres as part of an enhanced aerial display to mark its 55th anniversary.

The Red Lions, the Singapore Armed Forces' parachutist team, pulled off their jump from 10,000 feet above with panache, and the Padang was bathed in neon colours for the show segment directed by filmmaker Royston Tan.

Two F-16D+ fighter aircraft from the Republic of Singapore Air Force go breath-takingly close as they perform a Cross Turn plus Vertical Climb manoeuvre, which involves them flying towards the Padang and crossing each other’s flight path like an X. This was the first time the move was performed at the National Day parade. It also saw an F-15SG fighter jet flying from the opposite direction towards the intersection of the F-16D+ fighter aircraft’s flight paths, crossing the intersection point before it pulled up into a vertical climb.
