New low of 31 fresh Covid-19 infections in Singapore, including 1 imported case; no new cases in the community
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 31 new cases of Covid-19, including one that is imported and 30 that are migrant workers staying in dormitories. There are no cases in the community, making it the fourth time since Aug 14 that no infections were reported.
The 31 fresh cases on Tuesday (Aug 25) is also the country’s lowest daily figure since March 22.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its press release that the one imported case is a 25-year-old permanent resident who had returned from India on Aug 13.
The woman had been placed on a 14-day stay-home notice and tested positive while serving her notice at dedicated facilities.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at an average of two cases a day in the past two weeks.
The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has also remained stable at an average of one a day in the past 14 days.
“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.
There were also no new locations added to MOH’s list of places visited by Covid-19 patients while they were infectious.
Of the 30 new cases involving migrant workers staying in the dormitories, 26 had been identified earlier as contacts of previous cases.
The remaining four were detected through surveillance testing, such as the fortnightly Rostered Routine Testing of workers living in dormitories and the testing of those with acute respiratory infection symptoms.
MOH said that besides the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, it has also conducted serological tests to determine if some of these cases in the dormitories are current or past infections.
“The serological test results for two cases have come back positive so far, which indicate likely past infections,” it said.
UPDATES ON THE REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore now stands at 56,435.
Of these, 54,816 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 230 on Tuesday.
There are still 78 patients in hospitals and most are in stable condition or improving. No one is in intensive care.
Another 1,514 patients are isolated and being cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-seven people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
