SINGAPORE — The Elections Department (ELD) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF) will not be taking any further action over a trailer truck that carried a Workers’ Party (WP) banner, a statement said today (Sept 8).

Videos and images of the truck had gone viral after it was first spotted near a WP rally on Sept 4. The sides of the truck had been brightly lit in blue, with the WP’s logo and slogan for the 2015 General Election. It was quickly nicknamed by netizens as the WP’s ‘Optimus Prime’ — a reference to the lead protagonist in the Tranformers movie series.

The truck had been in breach of the Parliamentary Elections (Election Advertising) Regulations, said the ELD. There were also safety concerns given the crowds at election rallies.

The ELD understands from the Police that the truck was neither initiated nor commissioned by the WP. Those responsible have been advised regarding the Parliamentary Elections regulations and have indicated that the will comply with the advisory.
