SINGAPORE — Looking to avoid the annual Chinese New Year grocery shopping frenzy? NTUC FairPrice will be extending the operating hours of dozens of outlets to cater to late-night and last-minute shoppers.

In a statement on Tuesday (Jan 17), the supermarket operator said 83 of its 140 outlets across Singapore will stay open for 24 hours next Thursday (Jan 26), the day before Chinese New Year Eve. Twenty-five of its outlets will stay open throughout the festive period.

Meanwhile, close to 57 outlets will operate for an extra hour or two, closing only at 11pm and 12am, from this Thursday. This is in addition to 62 FairPrice stores that already operate around the clock.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO of NTUC FairPrice, said in the statement: “We expect customer traffic to increase at our stores...we will extend our operating hours to make it more convenient for shoppers as well as cater to the festive demand. We wish all our customers a Happy Lunar New Year!”

Normal operating hours at FairPrice outlets will resume on Jan 30.
