Number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore crosses 20,000 mark, with 788 new infections
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 788 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases here to 20,198.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a press release on Wednesday (May 6) that seven new clusters of infections have emerged. These are located at 20 Benoi Lane, 5 Fourth Chin Bee Road, 36 and 38 Kian Teck Drive, Tampines Street 62, 14 Tech Park Crescent, 50A Tuas Link 4 and 35 Tuas View Walk 2.
Of the new cases, 13 are cases in the community. Eleven of those infections are Singaporeans or permanent residents and two are work pass holders.
MOH said the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 16 cases a day in the week before, to an average of 10 a day in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also gone down, from an average of nine cases a day in the week before, to an average of four a day in the past week.
Sixteen of the new cases are foreign workers residing outside the dormitories, and 759 are workers living in dormitories.
There were no imported cases reported on Wednesday.
UPDATE ON THE REST OF THE CONFIRMED CASES
In all, 1,634 have fully recovered from the Covid-19 infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 115 discharged on Wednesday.
There are currently 1,462 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are in stable condition or improving, and 23 patients are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
MOH said that 17,082 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
Twenty have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection, MOH said.
