One imported case from India among new Covid-19 infections; 1 new cluster identified
SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health on Tuesday (June 30) confirmed 246 new cases of Covid-19 in Singapore, with one one imported case among these.
This is the first imported case since June 14. The patient, a 44-year-old Singapore permanent resident, had returned from India on June 24.
She was placed on stay-home notice upon arrival and had been taken to a facility to start her 14-day isolation.
She developed symptoms during the stay-home notice period, MOH said.
The ministry also said that it has identified one new cluster of infections at a dormitory located at 20 Senoko Crescent in Woodlands.
Of the 246 new cases, five are in the community. Two of the five are Singaporeans, with one detected because the 49-year-old man had been deployed to frontline Covid-19 operations while investigations are ongoing for the other, a 73-year-old man.
Three of the five are work permit holders. Two were tested because they work in essential services. The third had no symptoms and was tested as he works in frontline Covid-19 operations, MOH said.
The rest of the new cases are linked to migrant workers living in the dormitories.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from an average of four cases a day in the week before to an average of seven cases a day in the past week, MOH said.
The number of community cases with no known links to past cases has also increased from an average of two cases a day in the week before to an average of four cases a day in the past week.
“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” MOH said.
UPDATES ON REST OF THE CASES
In all, MOH said that 38,500 people have fully recovered from Covid-19 and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 515 on Tuesday.
There are still 215 patients in hospitals. Of these, most are in stable condition or improving, and one patient is in critical condition under intensive care.
MOH said that 5,166 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.
Twenty-six people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
