SINGAPORE – About 1.3 million Singaporeans will receive between S$250 and S$500 in GST cash vouchers this year, the Ministry of Finance said on Monday (June 20). A Singaporean who is at least 21 years old and earning below S$26,000 a year is eligible for the payouts, provided the annual value of his home does not exceed S$21,000.
The payouts, which will be disbursed in August and November, comprise a regular GST Voucher (GSTV) cash payout of up to S$300 and a one-off special cash payout of up to S$200, announced during this year’s Budget to support households amid the current economic conditions.
Notification letters will be sent out to households by next Friday.
In addition, about 425,000 Singaporeans aged 65 years and above will receive GSTV Medisave top-ups of up to S$450 in August.
Singaporeans born on or before Dec 31, 1959 who do not get Pioneer Generation (PG) benefits will also get an additional Medisave top-up of up to S$200 each year until 2018.
Pioneers themselves will receive PG Medisave top-ups ranging from S$200 to S$800. For instance, a Pioneer aged 85 this year who is living in an HDB flat (and does not own a second property) will receive S$1,250 in GSTV and PG Medisave top-ups.
In total, the GST vouchers and Medisave top-ups will cost the Government S$890 million this year.
