“We have worked very hard…any resident will be able to attest to the transformations we’ve seen in this estate,” said Dr Balakrishan, citing how facilities had improved in the neighbourhood.

But he added: “But the last four and a half years have been (moving along at a frenetic place) We hope to slow down … and turn our attention to a more green scale of development.”

The MPs also launched a five-year Town Improvement Plan. Residents can look forward to two new hawker centres, the completion of the Downtown Line 2 (DTL2), and the rejuvenation of green spaces like the Green Corridor and the ABC Waters Project.

But going beyond concrete plans, the team also championed a values-driven leadership emphasising character, honesty and integrity.

Said Mr de Souza: “My belief is that politics is a sacred duty and a mammoth task. It’s easy to talk but difficult to do... We have values and ideals but we have to make it count.”

Dr Balakrishnan also lauded first-term MP Sim Ann for her passion in helping children with special needs, and Mr de Souza for pushing for policies against human trafficking.

The ward was previously contested by the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP). The PAP team got 60.1 per cent of the votes. This coming elections, the SDP has announced that it will be contesting the constituency.

Said Mr Liang: “This is a team that is fully committed, passionate and able – it’s a dream team and I’m glad that we’re able to contest again."
