Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School student sole unlinked Covid-19 case among 6 new community infections
SINGAPORE — A 13-year-old student at Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School is the sole unlinked case of Covid-19 transmission in the community registered on Sunday (June 6).
The student, a Singaporean, was last in school on May 18, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its nightly update on the coronavirus situation.
She developed anosmia — or loss of smell — on May 29 and did not seek medical treatment until June 4 when she visited a general practitioner (GP) clinic and was tested for Covid-19.
Her test result came back positive on June 5. Her serology test result is pending.
There were another five community cases, all of whom were linked to existing clusters:
NTUC Foodfare (308 Anchorvale Road) cluster
A 50-year-old male China national who works as a machine operator at Xinghe Knife Sharpening Service
McDonald’s delivery riders cluster
A 29-year-old Malaysian man who works as a delivery rider at Pizza Hut (Bukit Merah), and resides at Wanderloft Capsule Hostel
Tektronix cluster
A 13-year-old male Singaporean student at Canberra Secondary School; he was last in school on May 18
A 10-year-old male Singaporean student at Endeavour Primary School; he was last in school on May 18
82-year-old male Singaporean retiree cluster
A 79-year-old female Singaporean who is a retiree. She is a family member and household contact of the cluster's index case
In addition, there were 14 imported cases, who have already been placed on stay-home notice or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.
Six of them are Singaporeans and another six are permanent residents who returned from India.
One is a work pass holder who arrived from Myanmar, while another is a short-term visit pass holder who came from Indonesia.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 136 cases in the week before to 116 in the past week, MOH said.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has also decreased from 23 cases in the week before to 17 in the past week.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore is now at 62,196.
In all, 61,635 have fully recovered, including 22 who were discharged on Sunday.
There are 207 patients who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and two are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Another 321 people with mild symptoms, or who are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19, are isolated at community facilities.
Thirty-three people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
There was also one new place that was added to MOH’s list of public places visited by Covid-19 cases while they were infectious: United Square Shopping Mall on May 27 between 11.25am and 12.10pm.
