SINGAPORE — The Government will be introducing a new off-peak monthly travel pass from July 5 for adults, persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
Commuters who buy the pass will pay two-thirds the current price of the adult monthly travel pass and the monthly concession pass. For example, adults who now pay S$120 for the adult monthly travel pass, will pay S$80 for the off-peak travel pass.
This is part of a two-year trial that aims to encourage commuters to travel during off-peak hours. It will be funded by the Government at an expected cost of S$10 million a year.
This new pass for unlimited travel on buses and trains can be used anytime during the weekends and public holidays. On weekdays, the pass cannot be used during the morning peak period from 6.30am to 9am and the evening peak period from 5pm to 7.30pm.
The new concession scheme – which will run from July 5 to July 4 2017 – is expected to benefit around 40,000 commuters.
The trial was announced by the Public Transport Council today (Jan 21) as part of its 2014 Fare Review Exercise.
