SINGAPORE — The Reform Party (RP) says it has asked to postpone a meeting with other opposition parties, scheduled for this Friday (July 31), as two of its key officers are in reservist.
The Friday meeting, which RP called to be postponed to next Monday (Aug 3), was called by the National Solidarity Party (NSP) so that opposition parties could work out deals and avoid multi-way fights.
Posting on its Facebook page today, RP said that it would still attend the meeting although it was “unfortunate” that the NSP had called for the opposition meeting “without consultation”.
The party also indicated its preference for “an open meeting where for example every party gets puts forward its manifesto for five minutes”.
“We have fundamental reservations about a back room meeting behind closed doors. Reform Party can hardly demand transparency and accountability of the PAP Government while not practising it ourselves. This kind of meeting is a denial of the fundamental democratic rights of the citizens,” the party wrote.
