SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 570 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases here to 29,364.

One of them — identified as Case 29,069 — is a 30-year-old female Filipino work pass holder employed as a nurse at Ren Ci Community Hospital, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a media statement on Wednesday (May 20).

She had not gone to work since the onset of symptoms, MOH added.

She has no recent travel history to affected countries or regions, the ministry said. She was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on May 19, and is currently warded at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases.

Eight of the 570 infections were “cases in the community”.

Of these, one is a 57-year-old Singaporean man — identified as Case 28,834 — who works at Kranji Lodge 1. He had reported an onset of symptoms on May 16 and had gone to work before being diagnosed with Covid-19 on Tuesday.

Of the remaining seven, one is a permanent resident, one a work pass holder and the remaining five work permit holders.

MOH said that of the five work permit holders, two had been identified as contacts of earlier confirmed cases, and had already been placed on quarantine.

“Epidemiological investigations are ongoing for the other cases,” the health ministry said.

The remaining 562 infections were linked to the foreign workers residing in the dormitories.

MOH said that it continues to pick up many more cases among work permit holders residing in the dormitories, including in factory-converted dormitories, because of extensive testing in these premises, as part of its process to verify and test the status of all workers.

There were no imported cases on Wednesday.

Separately, MOH also identified two new clusters of infections. They are located at 29 Senoko South Road and 144 Tagore Lane.

MOH said that it has been monitoring existing clusters for any further transmission.

“As there have been no more cases linked to the construction site at Project Glory (50 Market Street) for the past two incubation periods, the cluster has now been closed,” MOH said.

UPDATES ON THE REST OF THE CASES

In all, 11,207 patients have fully recovered from the Covid-19 infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 842 people that were discharged on Wednesday.

There are currently 954 patients who are still in hospital.

Of these, most are stable or improving, and 11 are in critical condition under intensive care.

MOH said that 17,181 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-two people have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
