Rumours of Jurong Point kidnap are fake: Police

SINGAPORE — A message circulating on Facebook about a case of child kidnap at Jurong Point Shopping Centre has proven to be untrue.
In a Facebook post on Thursday (March 30), the police said they were aware of the message, in which two children were said to have been kidnapped at the mall on March 27 and that two men were arrested for the crime.
They clarified that the information is untrue and there were no reports made about a child kidnapping incident.
The police also urged the public not to spread unsubstantiated information which may cause alarm.
“The police takes a very stern view against anyone who spreads false information and will not hesitate to take action against such individuals,” they said.
Last year, fake accounts of an attempted child kidnap at VivoCity’s Giant supermarket similarly made its rounds on social media, and were reported by some Singapore news websites.
