SINGAPORE – If you see the number 995 on your caller ID, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) wants you to know that it is a genuine call and that you should pick it up.
The SCDF said in a media release on Wednesday (May 31) that, from Thursday (June 1) onwards, the 995 emergency hotline number will be displayed on the caller ID for telephones.
It said that upon receiving a call from members of the public, it may contact the caller later to get more information on the latest development to an emergency, or provide the caller with medical advisory for a patient.
However, it said that “some callers may not respond to telephone calls when there is no recognisable number”.
Prior to the enhancement, mobile telephones and land-lines with caller ID would only display “Unknown Number”, “Private Number” or “No Caller ID” when the SCDF Operations Centre attempted to contact members of the public.
The SCDF said that this enhancement will only affect users of Singtel, M1 and StarHub lines, and added that this will not impact international numbers used in Singapore.
Members of the public are also advised to take note that numbers beginning with the prefix +995 – and followed by other numbers (+995-xxx-xxxx) – are not from the SCDF Operations Centre.
