SINGAPORE — The first of the 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliners that Scoot ordered in October 2012 touched down this morning (Feb 2) at Changi Airport to a ceremonial water cannon salute.

Flown from Boeing’s factory in Everett, Washington, the plane marks the “start of a new chapter in our short but exciting history”, said Mr Campbell Wilson, Scoot’s chief executive.

“It will allow us to triple in size, add new destinations, increase frequencies and grow the Singapore hub, all whilst continuing to offer unbeatable value airfares. New and improved seats, streaming movies, inflight Internet connectivity add to all of the choices and options Scoot already provides,” he said.

Its first commercial flight will be to Perth, bound to take off in a few days’ time.

The new plane, named Dream Start, also boasts larger windows and larger stowage bins, and allows a more comfortable cabin pressure and humility.

Scoot and Boeing flew nearly 40 guests to Seattle earlier to participate in the delivery celebrations, which also included visits to the Boeing Dreamliner Gallery and factory in Everett, and the Museum of Flight, before a ceremonial send off by Boeing staff at Paine Field.
