Sengkang LRT services interrupted on Friday evening due to power fault , loud 'boom' heard by nearby residents

SINGAPORE — Services on the eastern loop of the Sengkang Light Rail Transit (LRT) was interrupted for about 90 minutes on Friday night (Feb 10) due to a power fault.

Some commuters and nearby residents in the area took to social media to report what they described as a "very loud thunder-like sound" near the Bakau station at about 8pm.

Some commuters on an affected train were evacuated. SBS Transit said on Twitter at 9.11pm that that service outage was due to a "a power fault".

It said on Twitter at 9.33pm that services on the Sengkang LRT had resumed. "We are sorry for the inconvenience caused," SBS Transit added.

In a statement late Friday evening,  SBS Transit's Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications said that the company was investigating the cause of the fault.

The power fault had started at 8.04pm, with services in one direction resuming 10 minutes. At 8.44pm, power was switched off on the Sengkang East loop for checks. Services in one direction of the Sengkang East loop resumed at 9.19pm.
