SINGAPORE — Concluding a year-long crowd-sourcing efforts to document Singaporeans’ stories of cherished places, the SG Heart Map festival will take place from Thursday (Nov 26) to Sunday at the Marina Bay floating platform.

Visitors can indulge in local fare at the food street while viewing light shows and 3D projection mappings against the city skyline. There will also be outdoor movie screenings of seven homegrown films such as Army Daze and 881, and a 12-minute short film specially shot for the festival. Directed by local film-maker Royston Tan, the short, titled 50 First Kisses, is an anthology showcasing 50 Singaporean couples and their most heart-warming moments, which took place at cherished places in Singapore.

“We started our crowdsource (to get) people to reunite in the same place, in the same pose again after so many years, so it is a very meaningful journey for the whole entire team …,” said Mr Tan. “What was very beautiful was the moment they go onto the location, they could feel the sense of connection coming back to them again ... You can see the joy in their eyes.”

About 100,000 stories have been shared by Singaporeans since the launch of the project in November last year. Led by the SG50 Environment and Infrastructure Committee, the project has reached out to 200,000 Singaporeans through various outreach programmes and activities. About 300,000 participants also attended related events and tours, and artists have co-created works of art with the community to tell the lesser-known stories of the places.

The SG Heart Map Web portal (www.heartmap.sg) will continue to be available for the public to read all the stories shared by Singaporeans. The contributions will also be archived with the Singapore Memory Project.
