SIA passengers can soon sync their phones, tablets with KrisWorld

SINGAPORE — Passengers on Singapore Airlines (SIA) will soon be able to have greater control over their in-flight entertainment (IFE) experience, thanks to a new app that can be used with KrisWorld, the carrier’s IFE system.

With the app, passengers can use their mobile phones and tablets as extensions of their seat-back IFE system, using them as a remote control to pause, play or skip through media content. They can also access other features, such as the flight path monitor, or browse other entertainment content on their devices, while continuing to enjoy their chosen entertainment option on the seat-back IFE system. Currently, passengers would have to leave their chosen entertainment selection to browse and access other features.

The app will also allow passengers to browse content available on KrisWorld before their flight.

It is currently available on iOS and Android tablets and will be made available for iOS and Android mobile phones in the second quarter of this year.

Current features of the app will be available on SIA’s new Airbus A350-900s and will be progressively rolled out to its other aircraft in the future.

The carrier will launch its first A350-900 long-haul service on May 9 with a flight to Amsterdam. Its first A350-900 landed in Singapore on Thursday (March 3).
