SINGAPORE — Singapore Airlines (SIA) has moved up a spot to come in second, behind Qatar Airways, in the annual Airline of the Year award by Skytrax.
SIA overtook Cathay Pacific, which ranked first last year but dropped to third place this year.
The local carrier also clinched several other awards including Best Business Class and Best First Class Seat. SIA cabins were also ranked the second cleanest in the world behind EVA Air, while its cabin staff were rated the third best in the world behind Garuda Indonesia and Cathay Pacific.
For best economy class airline seat, Japan Airlines took top spot. “The ‘Sky Wider’ design available on most B777, B787 and B767 aircraft offers 34-inches of leg room as well as an 18.5-inch seat width and this generous personal living space was a key reason for the airlines success this year,” said a Skytrax press statement.
Meanwhile, AirAsia was once again named as the World’s Best Low Cost Airline. The Kuala-Lumpur based airline won the award for the seventh consecutive year.
The Skytrax World Airline Awards are handed out based on a passenger satisfaction survey by travellers from across the globe. This year’s survey was operated online from September last year to May, with 18.89 million customer surveys completed.
