Singapore Airlines slips one spot to third-best in the world in Skytrax ranking

SINGAPORE — Local carrier Singapore Airlines (SIA) remains the best airline in Asia, but has slipped one spot to third-best in the world, according to the latest passenger survey by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax.
Skytrax announced the world’s Top 100 Airlines, voted for by airline customers, at the World Airline Awards held at Farnborough Airshow in the United Kingdom on Tuesday (July 12).
SIA won the award for Best Airline in Asia, leading Asian carriers Cathay Pacific, ANA (All Nippon Airways) and EVA.
Dubai-based Emirates reclaimed top honours for best airline in the world for the fourth time after being placed fifth last year.
In the business class category, Qatar won Best Business Class Airline, with SIA placing second. The local carrier also won Best Business Class Airline Seat.
In response to the award, SIA said: “We are honoured to receive these prestigious awards which are a validation of the hard work and dedication of our staff around the world who ensure that Singapore Airlines remains competitive on a global level.”
Among budget airlines, AirAsia was named as the best low-cost airline, both in Asia and in the world. Jetstar Asia was fourth, while SIA-owned Scoot was ranked fifth. Tiger Airways took the eight position.
Skytrax is recognised for its global ranking system which tracks customer satisfaction of airline services and performance globally.
The awards are based on the results of the World Airline Survey, which measures customer satisfaction levels across the airport and onboard environment. There are 41 key performance indicators of airline front-line product and service.
The survey, conducted online between August 2015 and May 2016, polled 19.2 million airline passengers from more than 104 countries.
