SINGAPORE — Two of the newly diagnosed Covid-19 patients announced on Monday (June 8) had no symptoms and were tested after seeking medical treatment at Public Health Preparedness Clinics.

They were a 26-year-old Singaporean man and a 59-year-old man who is a work pass holder of Swiss nationality. Both are part of the 386 new cases announced on Monday.

The Public Health Preparedness Clinics is a network of general practice clinics designated by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to provide treatment for people with respiratory symptoms, with subsidies provided for citizens and permanent residents and the Pioneer and Merdeka Generation groups of seniors.

In its latest update, MOH said that overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from an average of three cases a day in the week before to an average of nine day in the past week.

The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has also gone up, from an average of two cases a day in the week before to an average of four day in the past week.

“This is partly due to our active surveillance and screening of targeted groups, which have picked up more cases in the past week,” MOH said, adding that it will continue to closely monitor these numbers as well as the cases detected through its surveillance programme.

The remaining 384 cases announced on Monday were linked to foreign worker dormitories, MOH said.

It also identified four new clusters of infections in dormitories located at 216 Tagore Lane, 9B Tech Park Crescent, 16 Tech Park Crescent and 115 Tuas View Walk 1.

UPDATE ON THE REST OF THE CASES

As of Monday, there are 38,296 cases of Covid-19 reported.

MOH said that 25,368 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 482 on Monday.

There are still 269 confirmed cases in hospitals. Of these, most are stable or improving, and four are in critical condition under intensive care.

There are also 12,634 patients isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-five people have died from complications due to the respiratory disease.
