SINGAPORE — Singaporeans can be notoriously picky when it comes to their choice of hotels — and a new survey by accommodation website Agoda.com has just confirmed this.
In the survey’s findings for Most Generous Hotel Reviewers, Singapore ranked 31 out of 44 countries on the list. The most generous hotel reviewers came from Russia, followed by travelers from Egypt, Ireland and Poland. The most generous Asian travellers came from the Philippines, China and Thailand, which ranked 7th, 8th and 17th, respectively.
Agoda.com travellers can submit reviews for hotels after every stay by scoring hotels on a scale of 0 to 10 in six categories. A hotel’s review score is an average of those numbers. According to the survey, which was conducted this month and analysed over seven million reviews from all over the world, the global average review score among travellers was 8.52 out of 10. Russia scored 0.56 over the norm, while the toughest reviewers came from the UAE, which scored 0.32 lower than the average. At No 31, Singaporeans’ average was 0.12 below the norm.
That said, some of Singapore’s neighbours seem to be even more demanding, with Vietnam, Hong Kong, India and Japan ranked at No 37, 38, 41 and 43, respectively.
“Travellers from different countries tend to have different review rating standards depending on their travel patterns, spending power, and just general likes and dislikes,” said John Brown, chief operating officer of Agoda.com.
