SINGAPORE: A set of stamps featuring different landmarks of the Rail Corridor was released on Friday (Jul 1) to coincide with the opening of the restored Bukit Timah Railway Station.

"The launch of this stamp issue coincides with the opening of the Bukit Timah Railway Station community node today by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the National Parks Board (NParks), following the completion of restoration and enhancement works to the compound," said SingPost in a media statement.

The series of five illustrated stamps feature recognisable sights along the 24km-long Rail Corridor, such as the Bukit Timah Truss Bridge, Bukit Timah Railway Station, 9 Mile Platform, Railway Staff Quarters, the Quarry Bridge as well as flora and fauna.

The historic Bukit Timah Railway Station reopened on Friday after being restored, along with the original platform and tracks, 11 years after the railway land was returned to Singapore.

The Railway Station is part of a new 4.3-hectare space for the community, located around the midway point of the 24km-long Rail Corridor.

Built in 1932 and one of two existing railway stations in Singapore, the conserved Bukit Timah Railway Station building has been repurposed as a heritage gallery for visitors to learn about its history and that of the Rail Corridor.

"The Rail Corridor is a rustic recreational space for visitors to experience nature and heritage," said SingPost.

"The Rail Corridor also serves as an ecological corridor for biodiversity between ecological habitats such as the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and Southern Ridges."

The landscape along Rail Corridor has been carefully curated to reintroduce native plant species to conserve the natural heritage and provide food sources for the native wildlife.

The stamps are valued between S$0.30 and S$1.50 each. Pre-cancelled First Day Covers (S$5.30) and presentation Packs (S$6.35) are available at all post offices, Philatelic Stores and online.
