SINGAPORE: A 61-year-old man was charged with attempted murder on Thursday (Dec 21) after a slashing at a Pasir Ris shopping mall the day before.
Loh Chye Hoe is accused of carrying out an attack with a cleaver at about 4.50pm on Wednesday at Pasir Ris West Plaza.
Loh allegedly slashed Mr Wong Tai Huong, 46, several times at Royal Regent, a store on the first floor of the mall.
Police also found two women, aged 53 and 55, conscious with slash wounds. All three were taken to hospital.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the 61-year-old man had allegedly armed himself with a chopper and attacked the three victims,” said the police in a news release on Thursday.
The parties involved were known to each other and were not on friendly terms. The chopper was seized as a case exhibit.
Loh was arrested at the scene for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon. He was found with injuries sustained during the attack and taken semi-conscious to the hospital.
The offence of attempted murder carries a punishment of life imprisonment and caning, or imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine or caning, or both.
Those aged 50 years and above cannot be sentenced to caning.

BLOODSTAINED CLOTHES
Videos of the aftermath circulated on messaging platforms, showing police officers outside Royal Regent, a store selling mobile phones and clothing items.
All three victims were seen in blood-soaked clothes. Blood stains were also seen on the pathway outside the store, with items strewn across the floor.
Two officers – one carrying a shield – were seen entering the shop.
A Pasir Ris resident told CNA on Wednesday evening that he spoke to the parents of two of the victims, whom he said were sisters and ran Royal Regent.
“Their mother was very sad and cried while telling us about what happened,” said the man who wanted to be identified as Mr Lee.
