SINGAPORE — Since the opening of the Social Service Office (SSO) in Bukit Batok last December, the office has already helped 515 residents with social assistance, including financial, medical and employment help.
The SSO, the 18th by Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) was officially opened today (April 30). It was launched by Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin as well as Members of Parliament (MPs) for the estates in the area Senior Minister of State for Manpower and Health Amy Khor, Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob, and Jurong GRC MP David Ong.
The new office allows the residents in Bukit Batok easier access to assistance, as they will not need to travel all the way to Jurong in order to seek help. The office is a three-minute walk from Bukit Gombak MRT.
Mdm Halimah said: “The SSO is another step towards improving the standard of delivery of our services, particularly by MSF. One of the things that is really important about the SSOs are that they are located in the neighborhoods and are accessible to residents. The other thing is that is managed by a central agency which is MSF, so we ensure standardisation in the quality of the services throughout all SSOs across the island. This is good as residents who live in one area and want to move to another area, they can access the same standard of service wherever they are.
Mr Tan said: “It’s really about identification of needs, the moment we can identify needs, we can then link to those who can disperse out and I think that the SSO can play a very important part, and also coordinate amongst all the different people on the ground.”
