Special ‘pop-up’ POSB ATMs for Chinese New Year
SINGAPORE — POSB/DBS customers will soon be able to withdraw new notes for the upcoming Chinese New Year at 29 specially-configured “pop-up” ATMs.
The ATMs are designed to meet customers’ need for greater ease and convenience, DBS Bank said today (Jan 20), adding that this is a first by a bank in Singapore.
The bank said customers will be able to use their ATM card to withdraw new and good-as-new notes in sums of S$100 (S$2 x 50), S$300 (S$10 x 30), S$500 (S$50 x 10) and S$1,000 (S$10 x 20; S$50 x 16) from these ATMs, up to their individual card limit.
The ATMs will be set up islandwide at 10 community clubs — Bukit Batok, Chong Pang, Henderson, Kreta Ayer, Kampong Chai Chee, Mountbatten, Toa Payoh West, Yew Tee, Yuhua and Teck Ghee. All but three locations — Chong Pang, Kampong Chai Chee and Teck Ghee — will be fully operational round-the clock.
A DBS spokesperson said that the pop-up ATMs will be launched when the new notes are available. This should be sometime in early February, said the spokesperson.
DBS/POSB customers will also be able to withdraw new notes at all 58 SingPost branches in Singapore, up from six SingPost locations the previous year. Customers will be able to withdraw new notes in two pre-packed options: S$500 (S$2 x 100; S$10 x 30) and S$1,000 (S$10 x 50; S$50 x 10).
“The Lunar New Year season is a cherished time for our customers, their families and loved ones,” said Mr Jeremy Soo, Managing Director and Head of Consumer Banking Group (Singapore), DBS Bank. “We want to ensure that banking with us during this busy season will be as simple and fuss-free as possible, hence our push to provide as many alternate locations for notes exchange as possible.”
DBS is also introducing a new feature on its mobile wallet app, DBS PayLah! called eAng Bao that will allow customers to send and receive cash via their mobiles phones.
