SINGAPORE — Motorists who evade tolls and fees on entering or leaving Singapore at the Woodlands or Tuas checkpoints will have to pay a composition sum of S$50 from Aug 1, up from the current S$10 administration fee, said a statement from the Land Transport Authority on Saturday (July 9).

For repeat offenders, the fine will be increased to S$100,

The LTA warned that motorists who do not pay the composition sum and who are then charged for tolls and fees evasion are liable to a fine not exceeding S$1,000, or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months for the first offence, if convicted.

The authority also added that it has stepped up enforcement of fee and toll evaders with more officers deployed since May to step up inspections. Additional signs have been put up to remind motorists to pay the respective tolls and fees.

The statement noted that a significant number of toll and fee evaders are foreign motorists who are difficult to track down after they have left Singapore.

“LTA is therefore considering the possibility of amending the Road Traffic Act to prohibit the entry and exit of foreign vehicles with unpaid tolls, fees, taxes, penalties or composition sums payable or due,” the statement said.

Tolls are applicable to all vehicles and Vehicle Entry Permit fees are applicable to all foreign-registered cars and motorcycles. Fixed Electronic Road Pricing fees are applicable to foreign-registered cars that do not have an In-Vehicle Unit (IU) installed and that use ERP-priced roads.
