Teacher charged with performing sex on 14-year-old student in toilet cubicle

The accused school teacher has been remanded pending further investigations into his alleged conduct.

SINGAPORE — A 38-year-old school teacher was charged in a district court on Friday (April 24) with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy last month.

Court documents stated that the man allegedly performed a sex act on the boy in a handicapped cubicle of a men’s toilet at the Junction 8 Office Tower in Bishan on March 2 at about 4pm.

The Singaporean man cannot be named due to a court gag order to protect the boy’s identity, as he teaches at the school that the boy attends, District Judge Lorraine Ho noted on Friday.

A police prosecutor had told the court that it is believed the man is “involved in several similar cases”, and that there was a risk of the alleged victim’s identity being disclosed if the man was named.

Because of this, the school’s name cannot be revealed either. The type of school was not disclosed nor was its location. The nationality of the alleged victim was also not disclosed.

The judge placed the accused man in remand. Other investigations over his alleged conduct are being conducted.

If convicted of sexual assault by penetration, he could be jailed for up to 20 years, and fined or caned too.
